oh happy day

Oh Happy Day is this week's freebie and maybe a general idea of how I led our summer and how I feel about us celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary yesterday (yay us!).

Wouldn't it be a great thing to say right before getting out of bed every day (regardless of what it may bring)? Oh happy day! Yes!

We've been having happy days all around, whether we were away on vacation or home in our PJs we had a great couple of months. I realize that things got quite slow around here and in my shop but lately seeing how quickly the kids are growing has made me stress less about that and keep things in perspective—such is the luxury and/or quandary of being my own boss.

I hope you're having having happy days yourselves!

mother's day - free download

mother's day download

I haven't posted a printable in a very long time so I thought Mother's Day would be just the right occasion.

Mother's Day is very special but why limit the card or note giving to just that day? You (ok we!) have no excuses with this simple design. You can send you awesome Mom a quick message any time of the year.

The PDF has 8 pages (I couldn't decide between raspberry/pink and orange so I included both. I also included options in English (mom and mum) and Spanish (mami and mamá). All you need to do is cut the card out (outline included) and fold it in half (optional - I used the We R Memory Keepers Corner Chomper on my printouts).

You can download the entire PDF (just delete the pages you don't need) right here.

For those of you that have cutting machines... I'll be posting cutting files for the "Mom" titles tomorrow.

Enjoy!

a little something for you

for october

I have a little freebie for this month. The details are in October's newsletter. If you haven't subscribe you can do so by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page. I only send out newsletters once a month, so don't worry I won't be flooding your inbox.

Yes, I said I wasn't going to add any fall-ish items to my Falling Leaves set... but I couldn't resist a little acorn for this one. Enjoy!

Thank you so much to eHow for including me in their 100 Shift List! So honored!

Have a great day everyone!

I'm trying

to-do list holder

This summer I feel so off. The whole work/kids schedule is still not really flowing. To-do lists are helping, but I wanted one that was really in front of me while I work. I'm using a standing work station that I love, but as you can see the top shelf is getting a bit crowded.

The minute I saw this frame at Ikea I grabbed it. All I did was place a printed piece of my Mod Stationery (the one intended to be a note card) in between the two acrylic pieces of the frame. I'll be writing on the outside with an erasable marker. Presto—a handy to-do list holder!

Cost of the frame: 99 cents!

As promised my printable Mod Stationery is now available in the shop!

petals collection - svg & pdf files

petals collection

It's finally here. I felt like I needed just one more flower. Just one more. I didn't get the inspiration until yesterday.

Surrender is the word that sparked the thought of the last flower design (the red and white one). I was in the car listening to an interview with Shriley McClaine. At one point of the interview she said that one of the biggest lessons she's learned in life, is to surrender. It took me a moment to ponder that and then boom... the flower came to mind. I have no idea why. About 60 seconds later the design was complete in my head. I couldn't wait for the kids to be in bed so I could work on it.

You just never know when inspiration will hit and what will trigger it. Just surrender—I'll need to remember that one.

The flowers are a lot of fun to make! I didn't want to shoot for life like flowers—there are enough of those everywhere in the paper craft world. I wanted to just try my own thing. You know me... I'm all about solid colored paper, but these would also look great with patterns and maybe buttons in the center of each. The possibilities of customization are really endless!

The PDF and SVG files are now available in the shop.

Flowers are everywhere! I'm not typically the type to dress up in flowers (although I have a couple of tops that beg to differ) nor do I buy any interior decorating items with flowers on them. But fresh flowers? Seriously, who can resist?

I've always said that my favorite flowers are the gerbera daisies but just thinking about it right now I'm leaning toward dahlias and peonies. They have totally different personalities... Hmmm.

Since the house is woefully lacking in the natural version (where's a farmer's market when you seriously need one?) I've decided to explore paper blooms. I've taken lots of photos (of sadly colored grocery store flowers), scoured online images to explore petal shapes and I'm still tweaking my designs.

This is a little sneak peek of what will be coming next week to the SVG and printables section of my shop. I love how they're turning out and they're so fun and easy to make!

valentine's day printables

Valentine's Day is something that always sneaks up on me. This year I've vowed to make it a little more fun for the kids, so I am prepared.

I was hoping to have some crafty time with the kids, but yesterday was one of those days when you do a little bit of everything—run crucial errands (first communion outfit for C!), family get together (more of that today) and additional shopping—so no crafting. Hopefully today will be the day. This is what we will be using... a new Valentine's Day set.

valentine's day

Instead of creating a smaller set the way I've done in the past I wanted this to be a bit more substantial. I wanted the set to offer more creative possibilities with pieces that are multi-purpose.

valentine's day

The hearts that are used to put together the ornament can also be used for card making or scrapbooking. The small gift cards can be used as gift tags or as mini-valentine's day cards. And the black and white hearts below can be left as is or colored in with markers or colored pencils.

The Valentine's Day set is available on my site or at my Etsy shop.

Now off to do some cooking for our family get together!

lined holiday gift cards or tags for kids

Oh my! I never thought I'd pull a disappearing act for this long. I've been trying to get a proposal out the door, but nothing is worse than changing your mind about something at the last minute. I'm almost done and hopefully the effort will be worth it in the end.

In the meantime, upon several requests, I decided to once again pull out the holiday lined printables for kids. Because of my limited time, I've 'recycled' some of my own images (hope you don't mind). I'm offering two versions—one is just like the ones I've posted previously and the other is in black and white.

alittlehut-holidaygifttags

The black and white version has illustrations in outlines so that your little ones can color (while giving you an itty bitty slice of time to wrap gifts? read?—maybe?—or is that coming from a mom + wishful thinking?). I hope you like them and that the kids have fun working on them.

Can you believe there are only 12 days until Christmas? I can't.

2011 calendar

You know when you have a great feeling about something you've made and you absolutely do not care whether anyone else gets it or not? That's how I feel about this calendar. It was one of those projects that just came out without much fighting with myself.

2011 calendar - all

This calendar will be offered as a DIY option—as a PDF document or printable/SVG files. I realize that this may not be what everyone would prefer but there are two reasons why I decided to do this. The first, is that (being perfectly honest with myself—and you) the production of any amount of calendars seems daunting to me at the moment. The second reason is that there are so, so many great ready-made options that I wanted to design something that you could really tackle and make your own.

In order to keep the project as simple as a possible, while still remain interesting to look at, I kept the shapes simple/approachable and set the design up with two months per page.

This will make a fun (& economical!) project to work on for gift giving. Work on it on your own or as a group at a crafty get together. Throw in some yummy snacks and drinks and you'll have a great time!

When I say you can make the calendar your own this is what I mean...

2011 calendar - customize

If you prefer more color in your calendar, all you need to do is use scraps of paper or fabric to the back of each calendar box. Here I used green paper and a piece of linen—but who's to say you can't make your version more sparkly and add glitter or shiny paper too? Remember that even if you don't add anything the color of your wall will show through each box.

There is a small window of hope...
If you are interested in a ready made (printed and cut) version (with some small assembly required) please email me [info at a little hut dot com]. I may decide to sell a limited edition depending on the interest level.

- To order a PDF printable version click here.
- To order SVG files compatible with SCAL (Sure Cuts A Lot) click here.

EDIT - By request of several customers I am now going to be offering a limited edition of a ready-made calendar. It will be delivered completely cut, scored and there will be minimal assembly required. Order here.

If you prefer a simpler calendar to work on, my blank DIY calendar is still in my shop (I had a few customers requesting the 2011 version in the summer—to get a head start on holiday gifts!) and my initial cutout calendar is still very popular too.

From where I stand, calendars are a lot of fun to design. My biggest hope is that those of you that do choose to work on your own diy calendar find it just as rewarding as I do.

So, here's to some fun paper crafting!

PSST! Remember that if you need some tips on working with paper projects you can check out some of my tips under The Basics section on cutting —here and here or about scoring here. (Thank you Trisha and Janet for recommending I mention this!)

SVG files for gift boxes

Yes, you've seen these before. But this is the first time they are not cut out by my own two little hands. I finally decided it was time to explore the world of digital machine cutting a bit more. I still love and will continue to work on handmade pieces, but this offers another option for those of you that are technically ready for something much less time consuming.

My Gift boxes, Halloween boxes, Baby boxes, Holidays boxes and Let's Go boxes are all now available as SVG files that are compatible with the Sure Cuts A Lot software. More box designs as well as other 3D designs are in the works.

new svg files

I've been asked many times if my boxes can be made any bigger and my answer has always been that the only way to do that with a PDF, is to photo copy it at a larger size. With the SVG files all you need to do is re-size and you're done.

I've always wanted to share these with the kids' classmates but cutting out so many boxes by hand seemed impractical (and who has the time?)—maybe this year I'll finally be able to do it!

For those of you that are still counting on the PDFs they will always be included in each set.

Important note: My designs continue to be sold for personal use only. NO reselling or sharing of files is permitted.

printable + misc.

There's nothing like going to another city and getting away from everything. We left Friday afternoon and spent the weekend in Austin. The main reason for the trip was D had a soccer tournament, but because of this we also enjoyed hanging out with friends. I just wish I had taken more photos.

I'm so glad that we were smart enough to come back Sunday. That allowed for us to have yesterday off for a recovery period. Have you ever needed a vacation after coming back from a vacation?

Part of yesterday included getting a paper project done which I can't show you—for good reason. It's part of the finishing touches for my second book proposal. Eeek!

However, I can show you what I made for a new guest post. Visit Good Look Cookbook for the details.
moving announcement

thank you

For those of you that still have kids in school, I put together a freebie PDF of lined thank you cards (or gift tags) that your little ones can include with teachers' gifts. I tried posting this a couple of weeks ago but that obviously didn't happen. Some of you can still get some use out of it, I hope.

thank you printable

To all of you that are teachers a huge thank you! I don't know how you do it. I'm always amazed with everything you accomplish in a few months and you truly deserve all the gratitude and appreciation in the world.

thank you printable

The summer has barely started and I already feel much more at ease. The daily driving to and from school, homework and lunchboxes has been replaced with a much slower pace affecting everything—this blog too. I'll be checking in now and then but for now things will slow down quite a bit around here. You get it right? :)

A bit of errands and a promise to take the kids to the pool await.
Have a great day!

baby favor boxes

Well posting without writing didn't quite last—did it? For anyone that knows me personally I'm definitely a talker. I've been a bit more quiet around here because our house is still a huge mess and it's not very conducive to creativity. On the flip side I've been getting a lot of reading done. I hadn't done that in such a long time—so refreshing.

I've had this set of boxes made for quite some time now and I just got a chance to put them together. I opted for the neutral colors imagining a more natural shower or party theme but they can be printed on any color of paper. They're available at my site or Etsy.

thank you stationery box set - printable

With the holidays just around the corner, I thought it would be nice to make a set that can be used as a hostess gift. I'm the type to be running around at the very last minute so I know this will come in handy. I find this set fun to make and would've loved to send them out all made up and nicely packaged but there is no way I can swing that right now. So that's why I decided to go with a printable version for now.

I kept the design very simple, but it can be altered with paper and maybe a few strokes of a crayon if you have little ones that would like to help. All the printable materials are included to make everything you see here: note cards, flats, gift tags and a plain envelope. The templates for the box top, bottom and dividers are also included. Just pick paper, some ribbon and you're set!

The cards, flats and gift tags are provided in four colors (orange, plum, red and gray) in a solid colored font and in outlined form. The outlined version can be used by kids that enjoy coloring.

The base of the box is a good opportunity to show off any patterned or colored paper that you prefer.

If you'd prefer to say Thank You in a different language I'd be happy to set that up at no additional cost—just send me a quick email.

This set is now available in my online shop and Etsy.

As a small thank you to all of you, leave a comment below and I'll be giving away a couple of PDFs of this set to two lucky winners. To make it fun, share your favorite hostess gift to give or to receive. I'll leave comments open until tomorrow at 9pm. I'll announce the winner on Thursday morning.

And as always... thank YOU! :)

numbers flash cards

I finally got around to working on this project that has been on my mind for a while and has been a request from some customers. This is a set of printable (animal themed) numbers flash cards that match my alphabet flash cards.

They are available in my shop now in: English, Spanish, German, French (feel free to contact me for any other languages).

Thank you so, so much to those of you that added a comment to my previous post. My little C enjoyed every single one of your words. They also sparked interesting conversations between us. This Mom is very appreciative of your kindness.

thank you

:: Double-Bow Gift Topper project found in Home, Paper, Scissors ::

Congratulations to Allison W. and Meghan! The random number generator selected you as the winners of the copies of Home, Paper, Scissors.

Thank you to those of you that shared your recent projects and recipes. I'm jealous of all the crafty work that you're doing. My hands are getting antsy to try something myself.

As a very small thank you for all your support I made this free printable of two thank you cards. I hope that you'll be able to use them in sending anyone else in your lives a little note of gratitude. Download here.

Happy Wednesday!

airmail

This post is a quick break from a project that has kept me busy since late last week. It's been a constant chipping away day after day (even while having family over for a barbeque on Sunday) and I'm a bit worn out. The good news is that the client is happy with my work. We're not done yet, so, I may be scarce around here for the next few days.

Backtracking a little, I did start the weekend on a great note. I visited Sew Crafty, Friday night, for their Spring Bling event. I met some lovely people (Sarah, Amie, Erin, Lisa) and had a wonderful time. It's always so energizing to be around creative people. I have awesome news too! I will be teaching a paper craft class at Sew Crafty in the near future. Stay tuned for details to come.

This is a little something I worked on over the weekend and between client approvals. I always need a fun side project to work on because it gives me mental breaks. I specially need the breaks when the project is very 'corporate' and on the dry side. This new printable PDF set is now available in my shop in two color options: blue/red and orange/gray.

My main objective was to come up with a small box that would be suitable for small gifts and in particular for gift cards. Sure, you can always tuck those plastic "credit cards" (like my little C calls them) into a regular note card but a box makes your gift more memorable.

I have no idea why the airmail theme came to mind. I know it isn't groundbreaking at all, but I do have some nostalgia attached to it. When I was little, my parents and I believe my grandmother, used these envelopes quite frequently. I still remember how it felt to hold them in my hands. The paper was thinner and it had a particular crinkly sound when handled. Some of the first letters I received from friends, came in airmail envelopes. They were always such a great sight to see in the mailbox.

I wish I still wrote letters the way I used to. I love technology and all it's conveniences but the joy of sending and receiving a hand written note of any kind can never be replaced.

school days gift boxes

It's teacher appreciation week (we have the best teachers!) and I can't believe that we are only a few weeks away from the end of the school year. Where did these last few months go? The kids are excited and I'm preparing psychologically to have to go back to my late evening working hours.

Thanks to your suggestions here I've been slowly making new gift box designs. They are rather addicting and fun to design. So here is School Days in time for the end of the year teacher gifts.

And now for the winners of the book giveaway. I used the random generator and the lucky winners are: Heather, Cassie, Pamela and Lemonlime Pie. Please email me (info at alittlehut dot com) with your mailing addresses. Thank you to all of you for sharing your sewing stories. I loved reading every one of them.
