pen + paper + ink

I'm going to start a series of daily doodles that take me no more than 20 min. to work on. They'll only be in black ink and I'm going to keep whatever comes out first. I've completely abandoned drawing and I miss it. I think this will help me further develop my small but growing pattern collection. Don't worry, my blog won't become doodle central. So just for today, here's doodle 001 with a little quote to go along with it.

The strongest principle of growth lies in the human choice.
- George Eliot

And on a completely different subject... Woohoo! The Olympics are finally here! I'm not the type to really sit for hours watching televised sports but the Olympics are the big exception. I'll definitely be watching. Don't ask me why (because I don't even know the answer) but my 'secret' pie-in-the-sky dream would be to participate in... archery!

Enjoy the weekend!

  1. I'm with you on the archery dream. I have taken lessons and loved it very much and would like to take them up again soon.

  2. Yes, my children inspire me to keep drawing as they have endless energy when it comes to using paper and pen. I am a swimmer, so I like to imagine myself much stronger and faster when I watch those amazing athletes. We'll be warming up the TV too.

  3. I look forward to seeing more doodles!

Like you, I never watch sports, but the Olympics are an excited!

  4. I really like your idea of a sketch a day. I too would like to be drawing more (well more than plan graphics of landscapes . . . ) and I may try to follow in your footsteps. Doodle like what you drew make great digital collage images or website building images.

    Way to go!

I have a sort spot in my heart for the Olympic divers. So dramatic and scary!

  5. Thanks everyone!

Elizabeth - We have a soft spot for the local, Laura Wilkinson. We met her after she won her gold in 2000 and went around the city promoting her Wheaties cereal box. She was really sweet and our son got to take a picture with her but he probably doesn't remember that.

  6. This is a great idea! I think it's especially a good one for artists who are moms :)

  7. Love doodles! Indeed that is what I draw every single day :)
Looking forward to see you daily drawings.
Have a great weekend with the Olympics!

  8. I can't wait to see your doodles!

  9. I've always been fascinated by archery. It's romantic and so... old-world. My dad hunts deer, so maybe it's just in me. I took brief lessons at camp one year and was pretty good, but that was it. I think I might ask my dad to teach me! Thanks for the inspiration :)

  10. I also wanted to compliment you on your use of varying line weights. It really makes the coral more lively!

  11. This sounds like a great project - especially to keep those creative juices going!

  12. I just love your blog and have been lurking for a long time. A special thanks for the link to The Design Alphabet. You're right, I could live there!
