A Creative Twist - Quilling

A Creative Twist is the new shop that I just opened for my sister-in-law. I mentioned her over the summer when she showed me how to do what she does. She makes quilled gift boxes, bookmarks and gift tags. If you double click on these photos you can really appreciate the details of her work. She lives in Colombia so I brought back some inventory with me and I'll be selling it for her from Etsy. You can visit her page HERE. I hope she does well because she truly enjoys what she makes. Aren't these cute? I certainly don't have the patience for this kind of work!

another break

I'm going to be taking a blogging hiatus this week (except for Crafty Synergy which I'll continue). I need to catch up on a ton of work. Lots of good things going on so this isn't a bad thing. I'll be back with good news.

Have a good week everyone! :)

Something blue

So here is the little guy that I semi posted the other day. I got this idea to make the little people on my cards more 3D-ish and here's the result. The canvas is 6" x 6" and the actual baby and bassinette are about 2" x 1.5". I don't know why I started out with a baby boy. I don't know anyone that is having one any time soon and I'm certainly not going to either - we're DONE! ;)

Baby by waves hello!

Baby boy

a good night's rest does wonders

I just re-read my post from yesterday and it seems so whiny - the CS part. So I'd rather leave for the weekend on a positive note by sharing some photos.

I got some "just because" flowers (the best kind!) from my hubby yesterday.

Our princess (as she calls herself) has been painting a masterpiece this week.

Lastly there's a table set by yours truly, with the direction of our little C. Anyone hungry? Cookie Monster and Ernie are willing to share. :) Have a great weekend!

a little bit of everything

I posted a question at Crafty Synergy to which I got no responses at all. None. This gives me some food for thought. I see people linking to the blog, visiting, spending time there (stats are very useful), but I don't understand why I can't get any input from anyone. Disappointed? Yes. Surprised? Maybe I shouldn't be since the posts never get any comments either. I don't know if I should continue. I really don't do it expecting anything in return - really, really -- (although the few 'thank yous' I get are nice) but maybe I should be using my not so "free" time on something more productive for myself. Yes, the selfish part of me has entered the building. Sorry...it's been a long week, little C and I are still sick...anyway...

On a brighter note I'm very happy that I finally got to start bringing to life a little series characters that I've been sketching for the last couple of weeks. It's a personal project that took me forever to put on paper and now they're finally coming to life on my computer. I let things percolate for a long while in my head before the end results are seen. That's good and bad. Especially when client deadlines are looming! They're really simple but I think they're cute. I don't know what I'm going to be using them for just yet. We'll see. Too many ideas...so little time.

I caught the cheesiest show (Million Dollar Listing) on Bravo last night while I was waiting for the rerun of Project Runway and I heard a guy there say this - "Breathe in faith, breathe out fear". I liked that. Yes, that's kind of a random tidbit there.

And this is me trying to stay away from blogging...yeah right.

WIP

So this is what I've been working on among other things. I can only give you a hint because one is not approved by the client yet and the other is a little something I'm still not sure will see the light of day (internet-wise). Frankly, I've been finding it easier these days to post about other people's work at Am Intrigued.

I've been swamped with work, little C has strep throat (looks like she's passed it on to me!) so she hasn't gone to school this week - she still cries when I drop her off, little D is doing great in school we'll see what the teacher says on Friday at parent/teacher conference, etc etc. Life just keeps moving along.

Just wanted to check in and say hi! I probably won't be posting for the rest of the week. Too much to do right now. Have a good one everyone!

PS - If you have time check out this blog. Interesting.

Friday!

Working outside

Since I can't show you what I'm working on I decided that at least I could show you where I'm working from this morning (nice to be wireless!). No, it's no cool outside (I live in TX remember!) but with a trusty fan at my feet it's not so bad. I just needed to get outside.

What a sad yard we have! Zero plants. Plain grass. At least the neighbors have a pretty palm we can look at. ;)

Oh, so why can't I show what I'm working on? Well, some of it is client work (nothing really exciting anyway) and the rest is related to my site. I fear that after all this build up some people will be saying - "what was all the fuss about?"- but I'm just being really picky about some things. I probably won't go live for another week or so -- boo hoo! -- because hubby is SWAMPED with work. I sure wish I could get into his head and learn everything he knows so I could just FINISH this thing once and for all!!

Have a great weekend everyone! :)

So how was yours?

As planned, we did work most of the weekend. Barely squeezed in some family time to celebrate my brother's birthday. We also went "into the city" (we live 20 miles from all this) to get this picture which I will use in a project for a local client. I know it's not terribly exciting but it's going to be used as a background only.

I certainly got a lot done over the past several days (a certain website is almost finished! yeah!) but it wasn't exactly a memorable Labor Day weekend. I hope everyone had a great one!

Illustration Friday - Safe

A block print with color added digitally.
I've been away from IF for a while. It's good to be back. :)

What are you doing this weekend?

We're going to be working. I'm actually looking forward to it. I hope to get a lot done. On my breaks I'll be finishing another block print which I hope will turn out nice enough to submit as my Illustration Friday (safe) for this week. It's been too long since my last submission.

Yes, that is a Lotta Jansdotter address book. I LOVE it. I bought it after I lost ALL the phone numbers I had stored on my cell when I updated to a better phone. I know, bad me, I should've had them written down somewhere. I learned my lesson the hard way. I decided that even though I have most everything on my computer there's nothing like paper. Plus it gave me the perfect excuse to get a nice address book. ;)

While I had the camera out I took a couple of photos of some goodies that we brought back from Colombia. The bracelet was given to me by my husband's aunt. I love it. It's made of seeds. The dark half circles are coconut seeds. I don't know what the lighter ones are. The bracelet is on top of a set of handwoven placemats that I also brought back with us. They were $2.50 USD for a set of 6!

This wall hanging is completely made by hand (no machine work at all!) and I haven't decided where it will hang yet. Little C felt she needed to help me out. That's her little hand in the bottom corner.

This last photo is the result of leaving my make up bag within reach of my 3yr old. She has the longest lashes and the mascara just made that more apparent. She did a great job on her left eye but the right one...well you can see. Everyone tells us how beautiful her eyes are. I happen to agree. ;)

I hope everyone has a great weekend!
