prepared

Everyone I've talked to is staying in their homes and they aren't calling for an evacuation of our area so we're staying too. The only thing on my mind today - get ready. Ike is definitely on its way here. I got the last of our supplies this morning (geez the grocery store was packed!!) and I've been getting things ready around the house. My parents and brothers will come over to our place because we're further north than they are. Mr. Z will get home at any minute now and will take care of the outside stuff. Since the hurricane will make landfall around midnight tomorrow, we're kind of expecting to spend the night in our master bathroom/walk-in closet (the safest place of our house) - who knows. Anyway... I hope everyone will be ok. Please keep us in your thoughts. I may be twittering a bit during this whole thing.

Here's what today looks like. Calm before the storm.

See you on the other side!

  1. Where are you located? I'm in Round Rock, right outside of Austin, we are staying put, but I'm still nervous!

  5. I hope everything is fine. I experienced typhoons but no hurricanes - gladly! I hope I never have to experience one!

I lived on the 4th floor, then 12th floor, and then 18th floor. We had a lot or rain making it through the windows (and floor as well) and the feeling the building was shaking. The worst part was for those living in boats, so we were quite fine.

I´ll keep you and those on Ike´s path in my thoughts!

  6. Thanks everyone! :)

D&B - We're in north Houston so I'm hoping we'll be ok. I'm glad that we don't have huge trees around either. This is our first hurricane experience (we left for Rita) so we're not sure what to expect. You stay safe and dry too!

Billy - Oh I'd die if I was in a shaking building! That must have been awful. Our worst fear is wind damage and if there is any flooding in the streets.

    Keeping fingers crossed!

  12. We're actually down south near Kemah but in a voluntary evacuation zone, so we're staying. We're all boarded up, and have our water and canned soup and coleman stove easily accessible! Good luck tomorrow!!
